The Journey of Henna

During Chand Raath, my family would go to Artesia, California to bring in the new Eid. One of my first memories with henna designs was getting my henna done as a child. I would watch as the Henna artist would press down on their Henna cone and watch her creation come to life on my hand. As an annual tradition we would go, look at the bazar, eat some Pakistani food, get my henna done and be ready to wake up early in the morning for the masjid’s namaz. As I watched I learned and then I picked up a henna cone and started to do designs on my own hand. My ability grew stronger as I was then asked by others in my community if I would do their henna and that’s where it all started.
