About Me

Who is TenTen Shah?

I am a traditional artist who specializes in acrylic and mixed media paintings.

Taking inspiration from nature, the universe, and my state of mind; using my vision and creativity to build intricate imaginary worlds.

My art is also a reflection of my lived experiences and circumstances. The intersections of my life transcending time. My art reflects the journey of humanness, of feelings, and the journey of healing through the enpowerment of art.

Growing up in Anaheim, California in an ethnically diverse household. Birthday parties included grilled Chicken Tikka, drinking horchata and homemade tres leches cake. Getting my turn to hit the piƱata while family and friends sang “Dale, Dale, Dale, no pierdas el tino”.

I completed my Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Riverside.

My background also includes real world UX and UI experience from participating in Harness Projects.

Since childhood, I have had a keen interest in art and have used my passion to create contemporary art pieces, henna, collage work, songs, dance, and poetry.

I am a Jack of all trades.

Fun facts

  • I am fluent in English, intermediate Spanish, and conversational Urdu.
  • I learned Spanish at home, English through school, and conversational Urdu through Bollywood movies growing up.
  • Anime nerd here, I love to see how the manga artists and animators bring out great storylines; as well as visually stunning and heartfelt pieces of art.

Statement

I am a firm believer that art is powerful, as it often times tells stories that can oftentimes be overlooked. Because art is an imprint of what we leave behind in this world; as a reflection, upon ourselves we are able to embrace art to heal, express, to tell our stories, and reflect upon our existence in this universe.

My Methodology

Personally, I love it when I am not consciously thinking about what I’m going to do. Depending on my goal, I like to let the art slowly formulate with every stroke. I’ll let the medium take me where it wants to go. Until things start to come together and then it makes sense for me to go in one direction or another.

Art has been a vital part of my growth and healing journey, and it has helped me work through my lived experiences and challenges.

So, other times I use art as a platform to be able to express how I am feeling; whether it is consciously or subconsciously; it has a way of coming through to the surface.
