  • You, the artist is in the middle of creating a new art piece and as time passes with each stroke you believe that your piece is finally coming together. However, after taking a moment of reflection you realize one thing.
  • The art piece that you have originally envisioned is not coming out the way that you intended. You think to yourself, “Something is off”. So, what do you do now?
  • If you are overwhelmed and/or frustrated at the fact that your art piece is not looking so great and you’re at the point where you want to give up and throw your art away. Before, you do so, take a step away from your desk.
  • You are allotted a break, whether that’s taking a deep breath, a short walk, or having a chat with a family/friend. Do it. Your mind will thank you. Then, come back to your artwork when you are mentally ready to tackle the challenge ahead of you.
  • The next step would be to take an honest hard look at your artwork and try to identify the aspects of your art that need improvement. Is it the spacing between objects in your art that look off? Are you satisfied with the color palate that you have used? Are the shadows of your artwork on the side they should be?
  • Now, one can be as technical and critical as you can be however, at the end of the day, YOU as the artist have to be satisfied with the way that your artwork looks like. It is also, important to consider what is important to you and what is it that you want to focus on in your artwork? For example, are shadows significant in your art piece? If so, figure out where the shadows should be? If not, then that isn’t something to focus on.
  • Now, if you realize that your art piece would have more definition and depth with shadows and that is the style that you want to try and go for. Then, you have just changed your mind and that’s okay. It’s all part of the process.
